My mother underwent surgery at one of the major hospitals in the city. Everything went well during and after the surgery until a week later, my mother experienced chills and high fever. Initial impression made by the doctor at the emergency room was that my mother may be suffering complications from her surgery. When the surgical site was examined, the examining doctor noticed some sort of infection on the wound as well as pus coming out from the wound. The surgeon who operated on my mother was out of the country and had no opportunity to check on the operated site hence a referral was made to another surgeon for examination of the wound. It was however discovered that a foreign body was seen right underneath the suture which may possibly be the cause of the infection. As a result, the surgeon had to reopen the wound site to remove the object that was not supposed to be in the operated part of my mother’s body. The infection was so great that my mother had to be confined at the hospital for another two weeks. The surgeon who originally operated on my mother refused to acknowledge the mistake he committed during the operation and was firm in his stand that he has no liability. All we wanted is for the original surgeon to pay my mother’s hospital expenses but he refused which led us no other choice but to hire mattoon injury attorneys to press our claims. Even in the presence of mattoon injury attorneys , the doctor rejected our demands hence leaving us no choice but to formally file a claim for damages against him in court.
